About the city 🌇

As Britain's oldest registered city, Colchester oozes of over 2000 years of history after being founded by the historical Romans, and this is also where the main campus, colchester campus, is located. But it's not just Colchester who has a lot to explore. Chelmsford is the first and only town in Essex with a vibrant bustling centre filled with shops, pubs and restaurants.

A bit further up north of the county you will find the village of Tiptree, famous for making jam, which the Queen marked at their 125th birthday party with a visit from Her Majesty. Essex is located on one of the longest coastlines in England and has a strong connection to the sea. And with this comes a fantastic selection of delicious food. On the outskirts of Colchester is Mersea, an idyllic island known for its world-famous oysters and the finest seafood.

There is more to the coast than just world-class sea food. Southend-on-Sea has the longest promenade in the world, where you can ride the pier train, play golf and taste the famous traditional fish and chips. Moreover, Southend airport is amazingly well connected to the rest of Europe, which allows you to extend weekend stays in charming European cities.

With the ever-vibrant London located less than an hour from the city, you are assured shopping, attractions, restaurants and nightlife in abundance.

What the students say

"I felt a little anxious at first, but I met so many wonderful people during my first week here. It's such an exciting and lively university with beautiful grounds. There's so much to explore on and off campus. What I love the most, however, is the cultural diversity!" - Claire W.
